Reading is both a way to learn and relax! For fall break, it's your choice of what you want to read, but you should practice using and recording metacognitive strategies. Once we get back from the holiday, you will be sharing and reflecting upon your metacognition as a reader in graded written reflection.

7R- We discussed nonfiction text features and looked at anew s article on population. You were also introduced to determining a main idea in a text. You were to read the article and do your best to come up with main idea statement for each of the three sections. Your work goes in your google doc. Refer to the presentation for notes from today. 7M- We revisited the news article on population, continued to discuss main idea and also introduced non fiction text features. All info is in your google doc or the google presentation.

Please read the story. Within the same doc, using the comments function- make at least two CONNECTIONS, ask three QUESTIONS and identify one part of the story that was the easiest to VISUALIZE. Feel free to make more!
This should be finished by next class. Here is a list of Reading Strategies work we have done so far:
1. HW- connections on post its from IR 2. HW- questioning on post its from IR 3. "Dreams" poem Questioning with answers, if you can 4. Paragraph about how questioning helps you as a reader 5. HW- passage for visualising should be copied into google doc. Include 1-2 sentences 6. All Summer in a Day - connections, questions and passage that lead to visualising Please make sure you are caught up with your work. These bits and pieces will be included in your grade for this unit. 7M- The short story "All Summer in a Day" has been shared with you via your English Google folder. Please read the story. In the same google doc titled, "Reading Strategies" that you have been working on, make at least two CONNECTIONS, ask three QUESTIONS and explain one part of the story that was the easiest to VISUALIZE. This is due by class on Wednesday.
7R- homework is to find a passage in which you use the visualizing strategy. Hint: find vivid and sensory language. Include title, author and page #. Record this passage in your google doc you've been keeping.
