Citing Sources
Make sure you have cited your sources from your research by including at least a list of websites at the bottom of your draft.
For Ethos, it's also important to cite sources within the speech as well.
Include both the name of the source and a brief explanation of the organization or person the information comes from.
For example: "Michael Pollan, the author of Omnivore's Dilemma, writes that our modern day farming techniques are incredibly harmful to the environment." OR "According to the World Health Organization, 40% of adolescents are overweight".
Main body:
The main body of your speech should be written in the PEA format we have practiced all year.
POINT
· State the overall main point. The overall idea (e.g. Fast food causes health problems)
· Not specific examples (e.g. Fast food causes diseases such as diabetes.)
EVIDENCE x3
· Quotes
· Facts (Logos)
· Statistics (Logos)
· Logical reasoning
· Supporting ideas
· Include Source (website/book)
· Credible source/celebrity or organisation (Ethos)
ANALYSiS
Make your point and evidence more persuasive and memorable, by using other techniques such as: pathos, anecdotes, repetition, rhetorical questions, exaggeration, connotation.
Once you have your main points of your speech, focus on how you begin and end your speech.
Introduction:
Your introduction should capture the attention of your audience. State your stance- what side of the argument are you on? Make sure the purpose of your speech is clear! Provide background information in order for your audience to understand your topic. Optional to state your three main points, but do not explain, yet.
Conclusion:
End strongly. Summarize your three main points and leave your readers thinking about your issue.
